The Theory

The Nose Trick

The Pencil Trick

 Parallel Viewing

The light trick is one of the easiest ways to see a stereogram. What you need is a candle or a lighter and this web site on your monitor. Having the stereogram in the middle of the monitor, light the candle or the lighter and hold it about 25 centimeters in front of the monitor. You should now be able to see a reflection of the fire on your screen. Dark colors are more reflective so if you cannot see the reflection on the picture, move the candle around the background.

Now all you have to do is look at the reflection for some time. By looking at the reflection you are actually focusing behind the monitor, not on the screen, which is the strange 'look', needed for 3D. If you are doing it right it should not take more than five minutes for the 3D picture to appear. If it doesn't work the first time, try it again. Be relaxed and concentrate. A quiet room would help.

Once the picture appears, memorize the look you have on. This way you won’t have to look for a candle every time you want to see a stereogram. Not to mention that stereograms on paper do not reflect light J.

Oh, and if you have an accident with the candle (like burning your monitor) I have no responsibility…OK?
